Organizing and packing has never been the forte of my friend or his wife, and what with all the

Rising Gas & Electricity prices!

Moving house can be one of the most stressful things you ever do in life. What with the paper work, dealing with solicitors and trying to organize and pack all your things ahead of the big moving day, your dream move can soon turn in to a nightmare. This is the scenario that someone I know found himself in recently.

Everything had been going so well. After deciding they wanted to move house, my friend and his wife had quickly found a beautiful new home that they simply could not resist. They made an offer and, after a little negotiation, struck a deal with the owner, who like them wanted a quick move. Then the solicitors got involved. Before they knew it the move had got bogged down in a mountain of paper work, and worse was to come when a huge chunk of it went missing in the mail during a postal strike.

This added weeks to their moving date and in the end, having agreed a quick sale of their current home, they were faced with the nightmare situation of being made homeless. This was an incredibly stressful time, as I am sure anyone can appreciate, but the one thing that made their life easier was storage boxes.

Organizing and packing has never been the forte of my friend or his wife, and what with all the stress they had somewhat neglected this aspect of the move. With only 24 hours to go before they were due to move out, they had not even had time to find any boxes to pack things in. Luckily, my friend’s wife’s mother turned up with a van full of storage boxes that she had used when she had moved house a couple of months earlier (mums always know best!). It was a massive weight off their shoulders.

The last time they moved house – a good 10 years ago – they had used regular cardboard boxes to store all their things in. They were useless. Most of them either collapsed because they were not strong enough to carry the weight we put in them, or disintegrated when it started raining. With this memory in mind, they were dreading the whole box-packing problem.

Thankfully, with storage boxes there was no such drama. The storage boxes that my friend’s wife’s mum brought round were large and made of plastic. They were able to fit much more stuff in them than they could with a regular cardboard box because they were just so much stronger. The other great advantage of these plastic storage boxes was that they were partially transparent – enough for them to be able to tell what was inside them anyway. This saved them loads of time because they did not have to bother labeling the boxes.

All in all the storage boxes made a very stressful experience much easier. And best of all their mother-in-law had another surprise in store. Her neighbour had kindly agreed to let them use her double garage to store all their things in while they waited for the move to go through. So, with them tucked up safely in the spare room and their things packed away in storage boxes in the garage next door, they at least managed to avoid any more sleepless nights – despite being homeless.
