Whenever you are using a search engine, the information about your short "stay" will be tracked: IP address, the research, profile and even your name (because so many people type their own name to know if others can find it!) This information is stored by the search engines - with no exception.

Google anonymizes user data after: 18 months    
Google gives user control over data: No
Microsoft anonymizes user data after: 18 months    
Microsoft gives user control over data: End 2007
Yahoo! anonymizes user data after: 13 months
Yahoo! gives user control over data: No
Ask anonymizes user data after: 18 months
Ask gives user control over data:  AskEraser: End 2007

By the end of 2007 Microsoft and Ask want to launch a new system to give the user the choice about their  personal information being stored or not.
